I am looking at purchasing a small piece of wood for my Clown Pleco and I am wondering if anyone has had any luck with the mopani wood and a clown pleco. Is it too hard for them to eat? Also the piece I am looking at purchasing would be approx. 6 inches in length - so would a good 1 or 2 hour boiling and a week of soaking be sufficient to stop most of the leaching?
Thanks,
Chris

mopani wood will be rasped by the pleco no doubt.

all pleco's need a bit of wood in their diet and will rasp on woods.

the tannins will be released all the time so if you dont like that color then you should add new carbon frequently.

A bit hard. Try for palm "wood", or some softer native woods oak, birch, etc that has been well boiled and dried.

if you want a wood specifically for your pleco to rasp on or eat I've read of a dried cacti wood that is high in fiber and etc... Pleco's seem to love it I think its called cholla wood but I might be mistaken.

Mopani is a hard wood, but if your pleco wants to munch on it, then it will.
