	What is up with my albino cory?
Rookie_Boy1 Hobbyist Posts: 53 Kudos: 27 Votes: 0 Registered: 14-Apr-2007	It can swim fine and acts normal, but there's some redness at the base of it's tail, is it a disease or what? If so, what do I buy to cure it? I've put melafix already in. Thanks guys. R_Boy1

longhairedgit Fish Guru Lord of the Beasts Posts: 2502 Kudos: 1778 Votes: 29 Registered: 21-Aug-2005	Edited by longhairedgit Redness in that area is down to enflamed veins in the tail, and that can be caused by septacamia indicating a bacterial presence and potential illness, or the water quality is off and the cory may be showing some of the signs of water pollution poisoning. Whats the tank perameters, eg, ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate? Albinos are obviously more translucent than a lot of other fish, so seeing the odd vein isnt unusual, but presumably since you have a number of cories you have some comparison, so its time to check for bacteria and water quality issues.

Water testing will be done tomorrow morning since my parents have guests atm. Will update with what the tank prameters are tomorrow morning. Thanks. R_Boy1

The veins could well be down to water quality. The nitrate isnt bad, in fact its actually pretty good, but there is obviously something wrong with the water quality balance. Whats the filter and tanksize, and whats you water change regimen?

Leaving your nitrate level to rise to 20 ppm or so is perfectly acceptable,up to 40 ppm is fine and hopefully the ammonia and nitrite spiking will stop. I think your actually changing your water too often.Overdone it destabilises filters.
