I just got a new for old deal from the insurance company on my pc.

Its pretty good. Only thing is I can fry an egg on the case its so hot!

Where do I stand in a case like this if it malfunctions because of the massive heat it puts out?

I believe you need a heat sink, stronger fan, or an area for the heat to escape. Hope you get better answers then mine.

Cheers

assuming you've already got enough case fans, etc. you should look at getting a PCI heat exhaust fan like these
[link=http://www.thecoolingshop.com/product_info.php/cPath/98_1_53/products_id/1162]http://www.thecoolingshop.com/product_info.php/cPath/98_1_53/products_id/1162" style="COLOR: #404040[/link]

I use 1 atm cooling my graphics card, and one is about to be put cooling my North Bridge and RAM.

Your best bet, really is to find out how hot the system is running first. Assuming you know what's inside mobo wise, and your mobo drivers didnt come with their own monioring software, there is a great program called Motherboard Monitor [link=http://mbm.livewiredev.com/]http://mbm.livewiredev.com/" style="COLOR: #404040[/link] which tells you the actual CPU and case temp. Might be worth knowing. If you've got an AMD processor, it shouldnt be running at more than 70C, if it's at 70C, it's damaging itself.

Might be worth posting the specs (including number, size of fans) and temps up here to see where the problem is.

Hi,
I went to that site, as I was curious about the temps
in my computer, and one can never have enough toys .
I downloaded the software and installed it.
It samples every 10 seconds, but says it finds no data
and drops off the screen.
I get a grey box in the middle of the screen and the
only options are to set the sampling rate, and to choose
a number between 1 and 32. I get nothing but the same
response, no data found and it quits.

I'm Running Windows XP

Any suggestions?

Frank

you should be able to run MBM config wizard from the start menu, then you need to select your mobo manufacturer, then mobo type then your revision, so my puter is Asus>A7nx8>not rev, 2. If you've got an unsupported mobo, it wont be able to read the temp sensors, which could be a problem.

then it should sit happily in your systray telling you the temps.

heat + electronics = bad.

Pop it open and see what's in there. If it's dusty, blow it out, and start adding fans Upgrading heat sinks can be a good thought as well. You could always place the comp in a little mini fridge too

Its all brand new and fitted out by the insurance company. Thats what is bothering me. Its as if they want it to fail on me.

Theres a large pc parts wholesaler nearby. I'll order some stuff from them.

what's in it? LIst the specs!! In the BIOS, you should be able to get a temp reading - it's under PC health. Restart your puter once it has gone hot and post the numbers!! If the CPU is getting hot, it tends not to make the case hot, eg my CPU is ruunning at 60C right now, case is cool. If the case is very hot you need to take the side off and check your case fans are running, just boot with the sides taken off. Check every fan. See how many case fans you have, you want at least 3. Does your PSU have a fan as well?

To change the heatsink, you are going to have to take the puter to bits, will that invalidate your warranty from the insurance?

Speed Fan might be another program to try.

http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php

The link to download it is toward the bottom of the page.

These new high speed drives due tend to generate a little heat while in use.

BTW..if you do have a case fan..make sure it isn't opposing the power supply fan (P/S fan out..case fan in).

nah, dont worry. Figured it out. The chazis fan was unplugged and looked like it was plugged in.

Only just got this compuer and thought it was put together properly.

Of course I found out this news AFTER I spent $40 on fans what a dope I am.
