They do bear quite a resemblance to juvenile European Perch, Perca fluviatilis, but I suspect they could also be a number of other things - might be worth checking American Sunfishes also to see if you get a match. If they are an Australian native, however, and you find out what they are (and how big they grow), I'd like to know, because we don't get enough Australian freshwater fishes turning up in the hobby. ![]() ![]() |

This is not a yellow perch; young of the year are far more elongate and have a total of seven diagonal stripes including the caudual and head stripe. |
