I saw a display tank at my LFS Saturday and they had discus and angels in there together. Now, I've heard that the two have different water parameter requirements, but when I looked them up it looks similar to me. Should these two fish be kept together or is this a bad idea?

I'm not thinking of doing it myself (my water would be terrible for discus....and I don't have a big enough tank), but I'm curious about it......opinions?

I don't see why not, they both come from the amazon, but i hacve heard that angels can carry a disease which is unharmful to themselves, but dangerous to discus

I also heared about the Angel disease, that might be deadly to Discus, but i've seen alot of tanks where Angels & Discus are mixed, without any problems.
If both fish are healthy & you have quarantined them well, then you shouldn't have any problems.

At one of the LFS I go never has them mixed. Certainly they might be from the Amazon but that does not mean that live together. I could be totally wrong. Are they not two totally different tempermental fish one rather shy and the other aggresive in comparison to each other.

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info

there is a disease that angel fish carry that only affects discus but it is not seen as often today as it once was. the biggest reason people don't keep them together is that angels are alot more aggrsive, especially at feeding time, than the discus are. this is probably one the biggest debates in the fish hobby, some do it without out problems and some would never even try. in the end it is up to you. I will add though that my lfs keeps their discus in seperate tanks and they use seperate filtration. hope this helped.
