I know nothing of that but the angels will compete for food against the discus and may stress or keep them from eating.

If the discus are bigger, than that should prefent outcompetition. Otherwise, the disease can be prevented by quarenteeing the angelfish. It looks like you have already done this, so I would not worry at all.

Hi Chris,

Angels can carry a parasite that can kill discus, but this seems to have been just about fixed with the fact that more angels that are on the market now are tank bred and the parasite is not always present in the angels.

I personally would never put angels in with my discus and this is only my belief and is not shared with everyone on here and in the fish world but I am not prepared to lose thousands on dollars on a hope that the angels are parasite free.

It is totally up to you if you combine the 2 and since they are already together and doing well then maybe you have been lucky and your angels are parasite free so stick with them together.

Good luck with them and contact me if you have any other concerns.

Angelfish and discus are closely related fish. There is circumstantial evidence that angelfish carry "plague", a disease that decimated angelfish populations. Although angelfish appear to have developed resistance to the "plague", discus have not developed any resistance. Discus cost 4 to 5 times more than an angelfish. Your call...

By the way, "plague" has been transmitted as an airborne illness within fishrooms and residences. It has also been transmitted by co-mingling common equipment such as siphons, buckets, nets and so on.

If you have had the angelfish for several months and done your best to infect your discus by co-locating the aquaria and using common equipment between the tanks, you may be safe.
