You can only put 2 Angels in a 29Gal. tank. I think that Discus need a bigger tank.

Chizunk,

I have used a planted 30 gallon tank to grow out 5 small discus to 5 inch size. My filtration turnover was 10 times an hour on the nominal tank size (300 GPH) and I religiously did 50% daily water changes. The tank may be used as a growout tank with lots of work.

Generally adult discus should have almost 10 gallons per adult fish with a minimum of 5 fish in a group. Given that rule of thumb, I would recommend a 55 gallon tank for discus.

Many fishkeepers who have discus will avoid including angelfish in their tanks. Although the species are closely related, angelfish are quicker, much more territorial and more aggressive than discus. In addition, angelfish may communicate a disease to discus that they have developed a relative immunity against.

I have seen set-ups with both angels and discus. Generally the angels were the dominant fish in the set-up. A very good example of this type of set-up may be seen in the bookstore near the National Aquarium in Baltimore. It has a great mix of characin, discus, corydoras and angels with the discus in the peripheral edges of the tank and angels in the center!
