Does bogwood change the colour of the tank water? I brought some bogwood a few days ago. I boiled it and soaked it for 48 hours and I have now put it into my tank.

I have notice however the water has got a brownish tint to it now, is that off the bogwood? Will it clear in a few days?

Thanks

Kain

Yes, it's the Bogwood that is leaking in your tank. It's difficult to eliminate it, but if you add some Carbon in your filter & make a few water changes, the problem will be more clear in a few days. You will not eliminate it in a few days, but it may take months to see the water clear again.

Don't you like the brownish tint in your tank?.

I don't mind the tint as long as it wont harm the fish when they go in there.

So will it harm them?

If they're South American fish, it's Ok. In the wild there is Tanning in the water & so the fish are used to it & don't harm them.

Spikey ,
The tannic acid that is visually changing the color of your water will also effect the PH of the tank. Being an acid it will make the ph drop some...so depending on what type of fish you have in the tank they may not be happy with it. Since you don't mind the color of the water, I wouldn't worry too much, but I suggest that you test the ph and make sure it's not too low .

^_^
