I recently setup my 20g tall after an incident with some
cactus compost (long story ). This tank has been setup
(with plants) for about a week now plus another week
for "re-cycling".

This tank is non CO2 and low wattage, around 1.25 wpg.
The plants I have are some wisteria and green hygro (and
also a "mystery fern" that I hope will survive).

Any way, critique this tank and help me along so this tank
can look beautiful!

I have had a quick look at all the photos except the last two where there were no photos at all.

The photos all look very dark and this makes it very hard to get a good look at what you are trying to achieve. Briefly it looks too sparce and the design has no set flow of design sorry.

I will PM you my E/m and if you can send me a far better photo I will spend some time with the photo and give you some constructive critisims if you would like me to do this.

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info

Keithgh is right, the photos are dark. What is the wattage of your bulb? And what is the K rating?

Background, background, background. Even just taping black or some kind of paper to the back will help a great deal. I use wrapping paper or poster paper on most of my tanks--cheap, plentiful, easy to change.

I'd be concerned about some of the urn decor you have in there, and I'm uncertain what the bottle adds to your aquascape (unless that was a reflection or behind the tank or something...). The openings are very narrow, and a fish may squeeze in, but might be unable to get back out. Consider filling the bottles up with gravel or something to prevent fish from getting stuck.

Is that a bubble wall on the left side? Or is it the output of a filter or something? Either way, it looks like a wall of foam on that side. If it's an air stone, you might consider a less powerful pump, or if your pump is adjustable, turn down the output a lot.

I do like the substrate, the hardscape, and the plants look healthy so far. You might add a few small crypts or something to the middle foreground, and an anubias nana would work well in that tank and give you a different leaf shape to break up the fine-leaved greenery that you have there.

I think it's coming along and you should keep playing with it. Keep adding plants, play around with the decor a bit. Please get a background. and you might think about changing the bulb in your light to a 65-10,000K plant or daylight bulb. It will really brighten things up.
Post more pictures in two weeks or so and show us how it's progressed.

BTW, what kind of fish are going to live here?

Hoping that there must be a word for everything I mean...

I am using a 8000K bulb, I don't know why the photos are
that dark, I can never get a good picture.

I was getting around to getting a black background sooner
or later...but I think that I will get one this weekend!

And no, that is not a bubble wall, that *was* my neighbor's
house but I blotted it out.

Yes, I would get some crypts or nana, but plant options
are extremly limided here...

The fish in there now (they were all hiding when I took the picture)
is a black mollie and 6 cories. Soon I might
add 4 ottos and 8 cardinal tetras.

The "urn" and bottle -- my fish don't really mess with that
which surprises me, especially the cories. And I think that
I am going to take out the bottle, as I don't think it really
matches

Here is a new picture that I took this morning: (this picture
is with flash)

The pictures in my first post and in this post don't
really do the tank justice, it looks WAY better in real life.

I did a little bit of aquascaping today (still no background
though!) and I hope to get some dwarf hairgrass the
weekend after this one and some anacharis for the back
right corner. Enjoy!

I like the short hygro in front of the rock/wood(?), though it may hide it completely if it gets taller and/or bushier. You might not have enough light for dwarf hairgrass, but if it works, it will look pretty cood. Another option might be dwarf chain sword. And for some reason I really like the little "twig" on the right.

Thank you. Do you mean the rock wall on the right? Once
the hygro gets about 3/4 the way up it, I am going to trim
it some and "fill it in" at the bottom.

Yes, I know it does but that's what people told me about
wisteria, and look at it now: tons of new growth!
Also, I thought that the dwarf chain sword took MORE lighting...but we will see *maybe* next weekend!
And for some reason I really like the little "twig" on the right.

Thank you again ! That twig is actually a small piece of
driftwood attached to a giant piece of slate.
