It shouldn't matter---there should be enough of the stuff in your filter medium. I've switched substrates many times without mini-cycling the tank, and there's never been any problems.

PW - I did read a thread somewhere that claimed that the person used EcoComplete and did not experience a cycle of any kind. However, this brings us to the question as to whether it was fully planted with stem plants and injected CO2 and high light from the start. If it was, it is possible that was the reason.

By the way, I've slowly gravel vac'd out the sand in my 55 and added Eco complete. I'm still not done actually. You may want to do it this way as many folks like to mix Tahitian moon sand and Eco complete. I would gravel vac out a little bit with each water change until the sand left is only a little bit (1/2 inch maybe?), then slowly mix in the Eco-complete so the bacterial colonies will not be too badly affected.

By the way, PW -- I'm having a plant club meeting at my house August 14 if you want to come. We're going to go to Kerr Lake for a picnic/swim most likely as well. Are you driving yet? I know it is a LONG drive for you but you are more than welcome to join in.

whew i thought u said august 16h... i might be able to make it its two days befre i go back to school ].< -_-. ill see what i can do sun ill send u a PM.

as for the tank well i wanted to do it all at once ... when i redid the tank entirely.... tearing oout all the current plants and well throwing the majority away and starting with a new bunch and new driftwood. basically tearing it down and rebuilding it in a much more organized and aquascaped way than before.

Hmm, then I'm not sure I would depend on the bacteria in Eco-Complete. When are you doing this? Maybe the new BioSpira will be out by then?

Yes, please try to come if you can. I'll give you more details closer to the date. A time hasn't been determined yet.

The live bacteria in Eco complete is worthless IMO. I used it on a new tank and it didn't really help with the cycle IMO.
