So I've heard. I curently keep a similarly rescued individual in a 50 gal (and plan on keeping him there--yay or nay?) and I'm pondering as to where this lil fella should end up. As I really can't be asked to get another tank, once he's large enough, I'll probably be adding him to a friend's pond.

On another note, the WCs are doing remarkable well for the level of ammonia in the tank atm. They've already equated my hand with food--although I'm not sure whether they're smart or just plain hungry. Also, I can never bring myself to be totally satisfied with this tank. I keep on sticking my hand in to rearrange things and the WCs keep on swimming over and nibbling at me (go away, plz). I can't wait until I can move my puffer in. Poop faster, WCs.

Ah yes, I forgot to mention the updated pics are online (click original link)

Well by what i can make out of the photo the bulbous plant seems like an onion plant Crinum Thaianum, but it's hard to tell because it doesen't has much foliage, trim off the dieing leaves and let just the new ones, and check / smell the bulb every now and then to make sure it isn't rotting.

The bunched plants on the right seem to me like green bacopa o rotala, but is hard to know because the pic is a little bit blurry.

I double checked, and it looks like I do have a dragon flame . They've been promptly removed. I've also posted some new pictures of the remaining plants. Could anyone here possibly do a double check for me on these? I'm especially concerned about the bulbous plant in the left corner and the bunch of plants directly to the right of it. I just got them a day or two ago, and they aren't looking so hot.

Yeah, I was told to mix the sand with the water by a few others as well---I'm new to sand . Also, most of the unidentified large plants have been sitting in a water solution for about two weeks beforehand (w/ K Permananate to get rid of snails and excess algal growth). The ones with the browned leaves, ironically, recently came from the lfs.

Looks really good Klee, congrats!

Just watch out for those Stripped dragon plants (i thnk they are the ones confussed with valls in the posts), they don't last much submerged and can start rotting, which you already know what will do to your nitrites and nitrates, not to mention ammonia. the tips of the leaves already are showing some decay.

I know this is yucky, but pull the stems out (valls for that matter don't have stems), and smell the tips, if you have to run to the bathroom, then take them out asap.

I know it's kind of late for this suggestion, but when adding sand mix it first with water so there won't be any dry spots, what you can do now, is get a twig or a pencil for that matter and poke holes deep into the sand in random places where it looks dry, that will moist the sand.

And a plant suggestion: Have you thought on planting crypts? in sand and with that light i think they will thrive!

Play sand, as with most sands, only allows the water to seep in so much, which appears as the upper level. The lower level consists mostly of dry sand clumped together, which is where those @#$%@#$%W# anerobic spots form.

have you put nutrients in the lower layer or something??

IME, goldfish will stunt before they look "large enough" to go in the pond. Try moving them in asap...they'll thank you ....but a 50 will be better than nothing for a year or so.

Actually the WCMM have a lot of character. Also, I have the same problem. I am slowly transforming my large tank into an Asian Biotope and my WCMM's always go after my fingers, hands or arms (I think its the hair moving in the water that attracts them) in hopes of a quick meal. They sure move fast when they feel like it.

Both the WCMM in my "Sunken Zen" tank and pond seem to be "holding" with the eggs. Though I have noticed some "spawning behaviour" within the group in the pond. Will have an update for tomorrow night.

Gary
BTW1) Dwarf Puffer will enjoy the planted space of that tank. Make sure you feed'em lots of snails to keep his "tooth" or "beak" from growing through his mouth.

Nice on the goldie was rescue , I've had to do the same (from my boss ),but they need 55 gallon as a minimum ....and if it's the "feeder" type goldfish, well that should be in a pond.

I plan to enter with this tank once it's intended inabitant (a fig 8 from my community tank--I was told they get pretty vicious, though mine has never really caused any problems to anything other than ghost shrimp, but better safe than sorry) is at home. Also, I plan to put the WCs into my 20 gal coldwater which holds (as of now) a common goldy (non-comet) rescued from a local fair.

I've now added a gold mystery snail, some rocks, and have done a bit of rearranging. New pics coming soon.

Nice clean and simple! I do hope you're planning on entering in the contest whenever it ends up being .Crazygar's experiment

Being a 10 gallon I'd just caution about overdosing on ferts, nothing quite like seeing a good tank go bad . You might be able to hide a few pieces of hornwort behind the driftwood, a fast nitrAte consumer, and rather undemanding....it's why I'm adding nitrAtes to my 10 .

Very nice looking tank

You're cycling with WCMMs...what fish do you eventually plan to keep in it?

I like seeing the step-by-step type photos.

Yes, I believe they are. BTW, what ever happened to your WCMM project? I don't remember what subcategory it was located in.

Nice Klee, nice and simple and pleasing to look at.

Good location for the driftwood and the plants (Vals?)

I added some aqua fertilizer reccomended by the LFS owner, so it's a definite go with the plants. As for the white clouds, if I add more than three (keep in mind that this is a 10 gal), the NH3 levelsll go through the roof .

Looks good, have you done anything to the sand to make it more fertile?
