I was just reading an article in a recent aquarium magazine that talked about a unique idea for aquascaping a freshwater tank. You can check out the site at http://www.freshwateroceans.com if interested.

Has anyone made a purchase from this site or used these designs in a tank of yours? If so, how realistic does it look?

AUGH. Definately not my style. I would find it annoying looking at Tropical Fish in an "OCEAN" setting.

In brief no comment.

If you like the look, then maybe. Cant' say how they look as I haven't got them, however one thing you might have a problem with is that depending on how they're coated you may have some trouble clean. If they're not coated you could end up with messy ornament when algae starts to grow in the pores.

I think this stuff would be gorgeous in a Marine or perhaps brackish tank, but I would never use any of it with freshwater fish, even though its coated - because it would not look right to me.

I like the "man made" corals they show, but I believe the shells are real, leading me to wonder where these are collected and at what cost to the ecosystem they are harvested. I suspect many of the shells may be occupied by the original inhabitants when "harvested" as they do not look at all weathered or sea scoured.

Obviously, most the people around here aren't thrilled with marine decorations with fresh water fish. And personally, I wasn't interested in the marine decor, OR the marine fish. But if YOU like it, and the products are safe, you should do it! I hardly think the fish will care if they swim around a fake piece of driftwood, or a fake piece of coral. Do whatever makes you the happiest!
