Ok ok, i'm being really naughty, but I don't want a typically saltwater setup. Technically its esturine anyway so I'm sort of ok... right?

Anyway, here's the brief:
3 hermit crabs living in a 20gal tank with 3 small gobies.
crabs need a way to get out of the water.
tank is in a high traffic area so needs to look clever as well as be functional
Currently it has a sand substrate, a handful of shells and a Fluval 2+ (which one crab perches on every evening)

so far my thoughts are to get a turtle platform and dangle a piece of green nylon fishing net from it, but it just doesn't feel right. I considered corks on the net but they'd be tricky for the crab to get onto.

I want a nautical theme without going reef... or natural for that matter.

For animals, the entire universe has been neatly divided into things to (a) mate with, (b) eat, (c) run away from, and (d) rocks. - Terry Pratchett

try taking some type of clear pipe and cutting it in half and making a multi level ramp up to the turtle ramp. something similar to how stairs work in buildings.

but good luck. i've thought of setting up a tank with some cobalt lobsters

Fish tanks are an expensive addiction

If you don't want natural, why not go for a seaside theme.
I've got a pic of one of the tanks at the Baltimore Aquarium that's a good representation of the Chesapeake bay that has a nice wooden dock and some grassy areas.
Granted it's a few hundred gallons, but on a smaller scale I'm sure it'd work...
I'll have to dig up that photo sometime today...or so...

^_^
