Thanks for all the intrest everyone has shown so far.
For the most part I have a good sized pool of members who have offered their services. I will be contacting everyone on my list soon with information that will allow me to make a final choice as to who I want as judges. If anyone is still interested in acting as a judge feel free to send me a board PM.

or, using the 4 judge example, every tank gets 4 judges, but only the 3 best scores are kept and averaged. so therefore, the judge's tank is only given 3, but none of the other tanks are weighted any differently than the judge's tank. i mean, this contest has been suffering from a bad lack of participation, and i think it would be too much to require that certain members can't submit tanks. if the tanks are submitted anonymously, or shown to the judges anonymously, obviously the one who's entered a tank will recognize their own tank (i hope ). i don't know how the results are supposed to be tabulated, but the judge could give themselves all zeros for a score. and i'm sure there is some kind of oversight so that even if a judge votes for themselves, then their scores will not count for their own tank.

Okay Okay! As a rule of thumb, judges are not allowed to enter a tank of their own into the contest, unless they find a replacement judge who Babel see's fit to take the Judges place in that months contest.

Ok... say you use a point system for judging tanks... Lets say you have 4 judges, one has a tank entered, so the judges tank would have fewer points (from only having 3 judges) then the others and would lose. The same could be said for a rating system of 1-10 the averages could be skewed by a non-participating judge. Im just saying that letting a judge enter a contest is a very buggy proposition, and is why no major contest allows this.

i think it would be obvious if someone was purposefully making bad grades for the other tanks in the hopes of making theirs win, even if they couldn't vote for their own tank

I don't agree with judges taking part in the contest, even if they don't judge their own tank.

john.stone is correct when saying that :- ......they could judge all the other tanks very poorly.

Good luck Babel!

Even if the person couldnt judge their own tank... they could judge all the other tanks very poorly. It just seems like more hassle then it's worth, but then again it's not my contest.

And The Moment You've All Been Waiting For

I'm looking for 3-5 people that are willing and able to dedicate a bit of time to serious judging of the compititon. This will involve the ability to look @a tank layout and design and not just on "oh that's a nice tank". The judges will have to be able to be mature enough to not let favoritsm factor into a given tanks decision (even if you know who's tank it is you can't judge it higher or lower based on that knowledge).

For those select few that think they can handle this, I request that you contact me via PM thru the board, or catch me in chat sometime. I do NOT want comments made on the board that you are willing, or that you've applied, I am leaving this open for people to comment on what they think the judges should be looking for ect. Depending on how soon I can get some judges the contest may return quite soon .

Actually john.stone, in a way I'm looking for people that could do that. In a perfect contest we'd have enough judges and entries, as it is I don't want to hold anyone back from submitting a tank.

...not let favoritsm factor into a given tanks decision (even if you know who's tank it is you can't judge it higher or lower based on that knowledge).

While yes it does make it difficult to judge your own tank, or if you know who's tank it is, a good judge will be able to judge each tank individually on it's own merits. With enough judges (and we've had some good feedback ) we might be able to have different groups of judges for each, as yet to be determined, catagory.

Using the judging form that was created for previous contests, I think that the average score should work out in the end.

That would be silly azn... A major conflict of interests like that shouldn't even be considered... One of the drawbacks of being a judge is that you can't enter a tank...

I don't want people knowing who the judges are, and thereby attempt to sway decision.

Some work will be required. Mainly the ability to look @each entry and judge it on a number of factors.
