fishyhelper288 Fish Guru Posts: 2161 Kudos: 1951 Votes: 137 Registered: 29-Feb-2004 | and i like how they decorate, ok, im going to give you a series of pictures, from around christmas till now, and how much i have changed the tank around, i realy like the looks of it now, and the puzzle is almost finished! only a few more things to add, and the tank will be perfect, and i wont ever touch it again heavely planted - i changed this because as you can see the tank looks too stuffed, and plus, the tank was always dirty and i never got to see all my fish, some fish i hadent seen in weeks or months. less plants - i almost liked this, but i dident have many short plants at the time, so i was forced to move mid water plants to the front, which gave the effect of a wall, and as you can see, the fish were puched to the front due to lack of open water. more organization- now, i realy liked this, but my live plants suffered due to lack of growing space, plus, it isnt quite appealing to the eye, not quite the natural scape i was going for, looked too...hand planted. no more fake plants- umm, this uglyness speaks for itself. [link= a suffering plant]http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/fishyhelper288/detail?.dir=f579&.dnm=53f9.jpg&.src=ph[/link=]- poor planty another of the suffering plant- sigh.. i got realy mad at the tank- i ripped out plants, mixed up the gravel, move things around, slammed the driftwood down a few good times before it would wedge in there good enought to stop floating...yelled at it a few times too.. after the algae people took over i love the tank now, it looks natural, and the rams look great in it, the ottos are fat and i LOVE my fizzy drift wood! (also this has only been like this for about a week..only down fall id that it is on some of the plants, exp. the dwarf sword (which if flourishing and already sending up new shoots!) left side right side another of the full tank FUZZY DRIFT WOOD!! |

I'd like to know about the fuzzy driftwood too & if it would work as well on rocks. If its algae, how do you limit it to the driftwood & not everything else in your tank? PS, I also really liked the planted look too. Cheers TW |

fishyhelper288 Fish Guru Posts: 2161 Kudos: 1951 Votes: 137 Registered: 29-Feb-2004 | i just left the light on for....a few days whoops lol, and it is also on some of the plants, but, the plants that have the algae, also are the ones that dont have holes in them i mean, im not complaining i realy dont know how it came about, in the tank for fish i have: 2 X bolivian rams 1 X blue ram 3 X ottos 2 X threadfins 1 X clown plec. 1 X young male betta 6 X young spotted corys of the same species and age and to finish the fishy part of this puzzle i will be getting: 1 X female blue ram 3 X female threadfin rainbows 3 X ottos (to help keep the brown algae away) for plants, im not so sure, i want to set up a background with possibly java moss on a grid sheet and a very short thin grass for the left side of the drift wood, after it grows in, i can clip it down i htink, but my plans to just leave the tank along for a few weeks seems to be paying off also, is this odd or what..i htink a bolivian ram paired up with the ble ram.. but with the algae, i only get it with natural drift wood that i got..get this, actualy drifting i had the same hting on a huge piece of drift wood while it was in my 29 gallon with low light, in this tank, i have 2 20 gallon light strips on it, one day glow, and the other is like 15-20 watts brings out fish color realy well, but iwill be changing over to all dayglow soon oh, and yes, it does like rocks too, it lso likes gravel, and i took the pics after i miessed up the algae on the gravel, but i liked it better with it there, in a few days i should be able to see good growth comming back |

Interesting concept I would have thought that maybe correcting a Nutrient imbalance would be the way to go. I am most certain that this is your problem though. Ingo |

fishyhelper288 Fish Guru Posts: 2161 Kudos: 1951 Votes: 137 Registered: 29-Feb-2004 | well, with brown algae i found out it was smarter to not spread it htrought the tank by washing particals into the water, by just leaving it be, i now have no algae in that tank at all |

LITTLE_FISH ***** Little Fish ***** Master of Something Posts: 7303 Kudos: 1997 Votes: 670 Registered: 20-May-2005 | fishyhelper288, well, with brown algae... That would be because brown algae is usually diatoms that are very common in new tanks or tanks with new sand (anything that contains silica, as this is their food source). Once the silica is eaten up the algae dissapears, no more food . With your nice green carpet there, I don't think that one will go away by itself. But I like an experiment (on your side, I would be way too scared) and I am curious about the results Ingo PS: Nice triple entry there |

fishyhelper288 Fish Guru Posts: 2161 Kudos: 1951 Votes: 137 Registered: 29-Feb-2004 | whoops on the tripple entry (dident even check after i posted lol) i find this off, the power went out so i lost, filters, heaters, lights ect. but i look into almost all my tanks and there is atleast one fish that isnt looking so hot, or dead, the sunfish is lying on the bottom of the tank, kinda bouncing around (i htought it was kinda funny lol)i lost one cory fry the bettas are all off colored... BUT: in my 20 long not one fish is upset! and i have a blue ram in there! i was sure i was going to loose him, but his colors are better than normal, sure, the ottos were kinda yellowy when i first turned the light back on, but they got better within the next half hour, im saying the algae had something to do with it...but, it might lol, the drift wood is all fuzzy now, but its still thicker in some spots than others, the grass sent up about 12 new shoots, and i have to cut down the stem plant AGAIN i just did it like a week ago or somehting, and i was able to take 2 and replant them, but now it seems that i will be taking yet another!, gee, i might not have to go out and buy more plants except for the java moss ofcourse, but i still have to locate some first |
