Out of curiousity, since I have been planning something similiar with my 2.5 gallon bettas tanks, what kind of substrate did you use? I want to make sure I avoid it. Thanks!

Very nice! I think it'd be nice to add a betta instead of leaving it fishless. The plants are gonna need some source of nitrogen (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate) anyways, so mine as well right? Also, with that much light would you need some source of co2 Maybe you can make a DIY yeast method co2 generator and use a gang valve (think thats what they are called, used for air filters) and have a tube going to each cube.

First, let me say... THOSE ARE AWESOME!!! You just put a million ideas in my head. You know what would be cool... if you put a betta in only one of them (like the second one from one of the ends). That would be a very artistic touch. My compliments on your project!

Thanks Stormy I am so happy with them, as soon as plants start growing I'll post some updates.

Rasbora Mary, that's Fausto, he's the kid of the house, keeps us busy all the time!

UPDATE!

I went for it, I got some beautiful Betta boys! So far 7! 2 Half moons, 3 crown tails and 1 Delta tail and one black veil tail!! 2 of them are already living in the aquascaped cubes, the others are in the plain cubes because they had a little of tail rot so they are in treatment, so I will aquascape the rest once they are healthy. I hope they are all set up for next week.

Also I had to do a lighting update since the old lamp didn't illuminated them properly, so I got 2 20W Azoo's Super light tubes! I think so they ended up having 4WPG!

I'm not an azoo dealer or promoter It's just that products that come from Asia do not pay custom taxes so they are very cheap, each tube was $10USD and the electronic balasts were $5USD so it was a good deal for that kind of light.

I actually have a fondness for the Azoo palm filters. They are great for bettas. Nice to have the option of a great little filter for the tiniest of tanks.

UPDATE: First Problem

Ok since I set up the tanks a week ago I had a bloom of white algae on the 4 of them, I think the substrate is to rich and the plants are not sucking up all the nutrients, so I don't know what to do about it, I've been doing WC every other day in hopes of it to stop, so far no luck, I know this kind of algae is not like the worse type, but still I don't like the look. Now that i think of it i used slow growing plants so that may be the reasson.

In one of them I dropped in an Otto and some watersprite in hopes of them sucking the nutrients and algae, so far no difference. I think I need to find a plant that can suck all of those nutrients fast! Hornwort is not available here (actually it forbidden), so if you know of any other it will be great!

The bettas are so loving their tanks, they seem comfortable and are in good shape, this next Thursday it's the last day of their treatment and I will start aquascaping the other remaining 5 cubes.

It's Azoo's Plant Growing Bed, it's not that bad, now that i've been asking around everybody has told me that white algae is actually normal in new tanks, and it will go away soon.

Ok i'm done, FINALLY!!!!

This time i tried to do the auascaping, acording to the fish that they are going to hold, so it could bring the fish features out.

This is for a crown tail blue red betta

Cube 6

This is holding a crown tail steel grey crown tail, and I decided cabomba will harmonize with the crown tail and the light green will contrast with he color of the betta.

Cube 7

This holds a black vail tail, he's quite big so i wanted to give him more space so the back has a stem of cabomba and Lilaeopsis and a carpet plant in the foreground. Also i shose a lighter color in the wood so that the black of the fish could come out.

Cube 9

This one holds my favourite betta, it's a delta tail transparent chocolate with bright blue stripes all over his wonderful tail. I decided to use some color to bring his chocolate color up so i also planted some Alternanthera reineckii ''roseafolia'' ('Pink') in the back with some Cabomba furcta (magenta) and Lilaeopsis brasiliensis in the mid ground for contrast ans finally a carpet of Hemianthus callitrichoides ''Cuba''

Cube 2 redone

I had to redo cube 2 because it was getting really bad with algae problems and some plants started to rot, it's also the new home of my proud red double tail father, so it deserved a better home than a plain bowl.

Excellent Idea!

I ended up removing my air pump from mine basically beacuse the noise was starting to make me go loopy, and I found a nice little filter from eden that does the trick

Hmm, something I kind of want to do... So all these old are plants? What are some good ones for it? Also, where did you get the cubes, an LFS or a home store like lowes or home depot. They sound pretty neat

I got the cubes from a tank shop, they do all kinds of tanks, every design you can come up with they can do it, in glass or acrylic, they did a bar top for a restaurant near my house very cool.

They can be plant only but I'm thinking of putting bettas in them, I'm still not sure, they are 1G but I'm still debating if it's enough for them or not.

As for plants, I have some dwarf swords, anubias nana petit, micro sword, dwarf valls, java moss, some neat dwarf crypts I got from a local guy, and I want to try several cuttings of large plants, I heard that cabomba stops growing when it hits the surface, so I'm going to try and see, it would look cool, like a bonsai one.
