hey, I guess this is the right forum to post in, if not sorry.
I got a piece of wood off my auntie and i want to put it in my tank, most of the wood i have sinks straight away, but i soak it to get the browness out. Ive soaked this wood for two nights now, but its still floating. Will it ever sink?!

if not could i use fishing weights to drag it down?

Thanks in Advance dave

P.s. i would post pictures but i have no dollar to pay for a premium membership.

You posted correctly garbutt_dave,
Larger pieces will take longer to sink, especially if they've been allowed to dry out. Some woods take longer as well (I had a rather difficult time with some pine). If you've been using cold water, try hot (not boiling as it aids in breakdown of the wood) water, changing it as it cools.
If you want to add it to the tank right away, then yes you can weigh it down with a rock, or attach it permanantly to a stone.
HTH a bit.

oh yeh! warm water, i forgot about that. I normaly do warm water. i'll be off to the garden to put some warm water in the bucket, its hard to get it alldone because its a long piece and i flip it over everyday so both sides get a soaking.

Thanks for the advice.

A lot has been said about this topic. There are some timbers that will not just sink, they have a natural boyancy.
I have a rather large piece in my tank it is extremly hard, water resistant Australian timber. I soaked it for well over a month in a large rubbish bin & it still would not sink fully. It is held down by a rather large flat rock.

Q Has it been in a tank before?
What timber is it?

Leave it to sink for 2/3 weeks & put some weight on it, so it will keep under water. If you use hot water the process will be quicker.

i dont think that it has been in water before, if it doesnt sink after a few weeks then i can get some ledgers off my mate and that'll weigh it down, if i do it that way will i have to be careful about my fish eating the line? i have an oscar and a pleco, i dunno where the P is.

I hope that information helped.
