A few days ago my Bristlenose pair laid some eggs & I removed the ones that where out of the cave that the male was guarding. The female was quite battered but now she's fine & eating normally.

Here are a few pictures of the event......

I bought some ABNs some time back one looks like a real cross breed. I hope they start breding but I dont hold out much hope especially with all the bigger fish in my 5ft tank.

I hope yours survive as long as they have plenty of places to hide they should be OK. Well done Jason and ABNs

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info

Thanks aloy Guy's. I've been trying to get the BN to breed for a long time & so I'm quite happy with the fry. Nearly all the eggs I removed hatched & here are a few pictures of the fry -

Wonderful news on the babies. My pair have not spawned in a while. I have never seen my female beat up like that after a spawn though.

Have you raised babies yourself before? I have always let my fish take care of them.

No, it's the first time they spawned & I found a few eggs out of the "cave" they have. I removed them & placed them in a plastic tub. These hatched but I never saw any fry in the tank...... the male is always watching the "cave" but no fry around. I taught that there are a few in there as well, but I didn't check the "cave", as I don't want to bother them. I'm feeding the little once pieces of algae wafers.

I have found that the male will keep the young in the cave for quite some time. Until they are big enough to care for themselves. Keep your eye out.

Best of luck!

I am also surprised that you actually found eggs "kicked out". My bristlenose have bred three times now and I haven't seen that happen. My female also has never gotten roughed up, so I'm surprised at that as well. In any case, congratulations on the breeding, it looks like your fish are quite active right now, if you know what I mean.

I also usually just let my male raise the babies until they leave the nest on their own.

Wingsdlc & Shinigami, how many days, do you think it will take for the babies to leave the nest on their own?.

I wasn't around for the first two broods (I'm in school and my fish are at home), but the last time they bred I was home for break, and the babies did not leave the nest for approximately two weeks after eggs were laid. I was surprised at the length of time, but I have no idea if 2 weeks is any longer than the norm.

Thanks for your reply Shinigami. Well the eggs where laid on the 7th February, but I haven't seen any fry in the tank. I also have some Corydoras, Guppy's & Swordtails with them.

The ones I removed are fine & eating well.
