hey all - just HAVE to share this delightful piece of news with y'all~! hehehhehee, i just went down to my fish supplier, and bought 4 C. barbatus for Singapore$16, which i think roughly converts to US$9.

It's currently sharing the tank with 9 C. trilineatus, 4 C. habrosus, 1 Dianema urostriata, and 2 Brachyrhamdia meesi.

Unfortunately, all these fish are in my 2ft tank. BUT BUT BUT, its onli gonna be this way for 2-3 days while i aquascape my new 3ft tank, then it'll be cory haven for everyone~!! MWUAHAHAHAHAHHA

How warm is your tank? With Scleromystax barbatus, a subtropical species, temperatures should be only about 65-75 degrees. In higher temperatures than that, the fish tends to suffer.

Also, this species has a tendency to be aggressive (particularly among themselves when breeding), so you'll want to watch out for that.

S. barbatus is without a doubt an impressive species, but unfortunately it is completely unsuited for most peoples' community tanks.

I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash.

Yes, i'm aware that they prefer cooler temperatures, so i've got powerfilters, airbubbles for increased aeration, and a small mini fan blowing directly onto the water surface to cool the water tempereature.

I've selected onli 1 male and 3 females, so i think aggressiveness within the species will be drastically reduced. I've read somewhere that males fight amongst themselves during breeding season, so in my case, i think infighting will be minimal.

Aggression should be reduced all right, but the male will still probably show some aggression towards the female barbatus. The gals will leave each other alone for the most part, but just keep an eye on that male.

Nice fish, by the way.
