I currently have a 10 gallon tank with a Golden Gourami and four Corys. My Gourami has started chasing my Corys. I just got a new ten gallon tank with the intention of putting my Betta in it. Would it be better to put my Betta in with the Corys and give the Gourami his own home?

Yes, it's better to put the Corydoras with the Betta, but make sure that they'll be left in peace & quiet, as the Betta might chase the Corydoras aswell.

a golden gouramie is a form of a blue gouramie, and they are not small fish.

blues can get about 6-7 inches and a 10 gallon isn't enough, do him a favor and get a 20 -30 gallon and let him grow in their.

Actually, the maximum size for Trichogaster trichopterus is a about 5" for males an a bit smaller for females. But regardless of that, they still get much too large to be kept in a 10 gallon tank.

Your gourami is probably acting aggressive towards the corys because it feels cramped and cannot claim enough territory. In an appropriately-sized tank (40 gallons or more), Gold Gouramis are generally peaceful surface-dwelling fish that ignore any catfish on the bottom.

I suggest that you return the gourami to the store and get a shoal of small tetras/barbs/danios, or trade it for a Dwarf or Honey Gourami (both of which get about 2" in length maximum).

I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash.

The Betta with the Cories is certainly OK but certainly not that Gaouami in a 10G tank. Unless you have a larger suitable tank I suggest you take the Gourami back to where you bought it.

If you are getting another 10g tank one more Betta tank this time try Cardinal Tetras and a few Ottos they go very well together.

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info

You still run a high risk, though, of the betta picking on the cories. I've found that livebearers make good tankmates for cories.

I have never had any problems with a betta and corydoras. I'd say it's fine.

Thanks for the replies. I put the Betta in with the Cories a little bit ago and so far all he does is hide. But he used to hide behind his filter even when he was alone. My Betta is a Wuss.
