A way I found to catch catfish is to catch in the net but not lifting the net out of the water, then take a plastic cup with holes cut in the bottom and scoop it out of the net. Then put it in a pitcher or container.

Try a flowerpot.

Raphaels love caves. A flowerpot is another cave to a Raphael. Get a flowerpot that's big enough to hold your Raphael, and a clear plastic lid that's big enough to put over the entrance. Chase your Raphael into the flowerpot, slip lid on, lift flowerpot out of water, hey presto, one ensnared Raphael. Should work with any other catfish that loves caves but is too spiny for a conventional netting. Takes a little practice, but I think you'll get the hang of it pretty quickly.

The sides of the raphaels are not spiney (or venomous), but actually like a saw-blade....if you touch them, the cat will often curl, and those 'blades' will cut you like a knife. Catching raphs on a flowerpot works, and if you get experienced, they can be caught in a net without becoming entangled.

I hand catch mine, not really a big deal just grab hold of the pectorals which they will hold out completely stiff, and curl your hand under supporting their body weight and lift out of the water. It usually takes less than 3 minutes to grab them out of a 125 gallon tank. The faster you grab them the less likely they are to know what the heck happened before you already have a good hold.

Empty chairs at empty tables, the room silent, forlorn.
