I have 2 right now and someone told me they are happier in numbers so I will gladly add more.....if any one can tell me how many in total they are comfortable with I'll get them some friends Also how do I know that they are getting enough to eat Thanks I guess I should let you know that I have a 75 gallon with 8 black neons, and 9 platys (5 of which are babies). I plan on adding some corys, some harlequin rasbora, a couple blue rams and maybe something else

It could help to know how big your tank is?

Another two or three would be no problems at all. I have two and getting a third for my 11g Betta tank.

I have tried most foods but they do not seem interested at all, they seem very happy cleaning the DW and all the plants.

Near enough is not good enough, therefore good enough is not near enough, and only your best will do.

Since they are delicate, bring home about six, and hopefully you'll end up with a happy group of at least 4-5. Is your tank hevily, or at least moderately planted? If so, then they should all have plenty of algae, and if algae is scarce, they will scrape a little plant matter off of tender leaves, but not usually enough to damage the plant at all. It's easier to tell when they are not getting enough food than when they are, because if they are starving, they will have sunken bellies (which are easy to see when they suck on the glass), instead of round white bellies. Just to be sure, keep a rock or relatively smooth decoration in a jar of tank water on a sunny windowsill and you should be able to grow algae on it enough to supplement your ottos diet, especially if they aren't interested in algae wafers.

Hoping that there must be a word for everything I mean...

Thanks for all the advise I only have 2 java ferns for plants right now but I'm looking at getting some more real soon. I also just attached 2 baby ferns to some driftwood so I hope that they grow well. I'm going to try the rock in the window because they don't seem to be able to find the sinking wafers, and they don't stay stuck to the glass (or anything for that matter) for a very long time which to me means that there isn't much algae yet. But there bellies look round and plumpish so I don't know, I just look for them every time I'm near there tank

For that tank you can get 6, as they are schooling fish. Make sure they'll have Algae & if not, feed them some Algae tablets or wafers.
