i have just bought a king tiger plec and he/she is wonderful, very shy with lights on so tends to feed after lights out, but classed as a carnivore any ideas what i can drop in the tank after lights out so i know he/she is eating.
any info would be gratefully received
thanks

Nice buy! They are great fish, and I wish to keep and maybe breed them (or a related species) someday. Algae wafers should be fine as a processed food staple, as many algae wafers brands also contain meat such as shrimp or fish meal. Shrimp pellets might be accepted as well. Just about any of my omnivorous or carnivorous bottom fish accept them eventually (maybe not right away). Granted, I haven't kept carnivorous plecs before, but it's worth a try. IME, frozen bloodworms are good too and is a good way to get most fish to start eating, especially wild-caught types, to wean them on to processed foods.

You should see me trying to make sure my fish eat at night, lol. It's just me in a dark room with a flashlight. But I tell you, it's worth it.

Cup can give his two cents, as he breeds Hypancistrus species.

Don't actively seek out the animal to check if it's feeding as this may stress the fish. Hypancistrines will eat anything, so don;t worry about it.
