Has anyone kept Schwartzie Cats? I discovered these guys this week and they are so much fun. I almost want to get a tank full!

I haven't kept these guys, but I suspect that the care and maintenance régime that works with Pandas will work with these also, though schwartzi will tolerate higher temperatures than Pandas.

If you're planning on getting a tankful (say a population of 12 or more individuals) and you put them in a decently furnished aquarium, they'll love you for it. Put most Corydoras catfishes together in decent sized social groups, give them lots of plants to nuzzle amongst, caves to explore, and keep them decently filtered and gravel vac'ed, and they respond very well to such treatment - usually by spawning like mad.

Speaking of which, my Pandas are due for a water change and gravel vac. I suspect they'll start spawning not long afterwards.

Unfortunatly. . . one of the Schwartzie Cats didn't make it for very long. The other little guy is going strong so sometime in the next few days, I will have to get him a friend. He is still swimming strong with the other 2 aeneus cats though so it's not a huge rush. (Thankfully.. because I am looking a fairly busy weekend)

Great little fish - strangely, mine used to be slightly less sociable than a lot of cories. I used to have 7 in the tank and they used to ignore each other. 2 died after being picked apart by something (I suspect my festivum), and now the other 5 are very chummy and spend loads of time with each other happily.

Their care is pretty identical to any other cory, sinking tablets to feed and small gravel or sand for a substrate...

Live it like you love it.

So what you are saying is that you got only 2 Schwartzie's, right? As for all cories, they are shoaling fish, and should be kept in shoals of at the very least 4. So when you have the chance, try getting 4 or more schwartzie's, and maybe even a couple more aeneus as well.

Yes I know. . . But, I only got 2 to make sure that they would get along with my other fish before I spent the money on more. I will be overstocked if I got a lot a time so I have to start slow.

I will get more this week but had a VERY busy weekend and couldn't get to the LFS.

Thanks!

I have 3, and they are not the most active corys but very cute and interesting to watch. They are pretty tolerant of water conditions and are happy to school with other corydoras species.
