chizunk Enthusiast Posts: 160 Kudos: 164 Votes: 0 Registered: 21-Jun-2004 | SO years ago i bought a spotted rapheal and the second day it went missing and today i went to go clean my tank (i have cleaned it with in the two years) and the raphael appeared it was an extremely crazy moment but when i went to scoop him up he was stuck in the net finally cut him out and put him in a bucket then picked him up in a cup and he got stuck in a cup.... Question: WHAT IS THE NOISE THAT CRAZY LITTLE FISH MADE?!?!?!? IT SCARED THE LIFE OUT OF ME |

You have two examples of Raphael behavior there, it's tendency to find a place where they can't be seen and their ability to make a sound. Now that you know the Raphael is alive, perhaps you could try keeping a closer watch on the little guy, eh? Though as a note, that sound is supposed to surprise. When a predator finds it, they'll make that sound to surprise it so they can make their getaway. Looks like it was effective for it's purpose. -------------------------------------------- The aquarist is one who must learn the ways of the biologist, the chemist, and the veterinarian. |

I have two of these guys and really don't ever see them much accept if I rearrange the tank completely. I actually did this today also and had to remove them for a time. They let me know they weren't happy about it. Jim |

That's great that you found the fish, and still alive no less, after 2 years!! Was he stuck in the rock too, or you think just hiding? /:' "it's the neck, it creaks under the weight of too much heavy thinking." |

One day i had to catch him and the lil' blighter would not come out, he used is fins to jar himself in using the small spike at end to dig into the driftwood and took us around 2 hours to ease him out! Was a struggle but we did what we had to do, pity we had to get rid of him. |

He looks like a goldfish after he's eaten a lot and is over 4 inches now. They both hide a bit, but come out often for the occassional scuffle over food and territory. Haven't heard them make any sounds though, I think they are too bloody happy. *Pokes Raphaels* |

I've been keeping them for a few years now and really the spotted ones don't grow in length too much, but they do in girth. The striped ones grow quite a bit and are much, much more social. Mine is out all of the time during the day. Koi Empty chairs at empty tables, the room silent, forlorn. |
