with most knifes i think a 75 gallon is the mini size tank for them.

African Brown Knifefish are relatives of the Clown Knife, but only grow to about 8" (meaning they can be kept in about a 55 gallon tank). Other than their obvious size and color differences, their care is pretty much the same as the Clown Knife.

They aren't too picky about their water parameters, and they require live fish to eat (although some can be weaned onto chunky frozen foods). They are peaceful, but like all knifefish they are predatory and will eat small fish like neon tetras.

Look up care for Black Ghost Knifefish and Clown knifefish and they are same as that really just smaller version, smallest tank to keep it in would be 55g. Give it plenty of hiding spaces and feed at night (or when tank lights are out) as they are nocturnal

I've had one for about a year, although I rarely see him. (at least I think he's stil in there) He made himself a nice snack of a bunch of tetras I put in a while back (I thought they were big enough to escape his mouth) but normally he doesnt seem to be too picky about what he eats, even stealing the occasional wafer from the cories.

they are often just called african knives. and i think they are more mild than BGK, and clowns. a hard tank style would be best, with rocks/driftwood. good tankmates, would be a peters elephant nose.

No, Knifefish and Elephantnose shouldn`t be mixed unless in really large tank, they both use electric sense tof ind there food as they are practically blind so two in a 55g would confuse each other, only can you put them together in a really big tank where they won`t come ino contact at all or atleast very unlikely they won`t.

Featherbacks such as African and Clown "Knifefish" are completely unrelated to the true South American Knifefish and are not electric fish.

Theoretically, if the tank was large enough and there were enough hiding places, Elephantnoses and African Brown Knives would be perfectly suited for each other as tankmates.
