Yes, they are slow growers & that's why they are expencive when you buy them in a large size. IMO they take years to reach full size.

Clown loaches as stated by Jason, are very slow growers. The reason they are so $$$, is because they are ALL wild. Aquarium breeding is not known(I still believe). Try Walmart or Petco if you have them around? 2" are usually $5-7. Not the best quality of stock, but they are a tough fish to keep in the begining.

Yes they are exceptionally slow growers and as stated they are mainly wild caught.
Large wild ones apprently do not settle in very well at all.
They can be known to carry a lot of parasites in their bodies which can result in many deaths for many of them well after they are into home tanks.

once they reach about 3" thier growth slows down a lot. I've read that in the proper care they live about 50 years so the larger fish caught from the wild could be fairly old, maybe evan older than you.

They are very slow growers. I bought one that was 1 1/2 inch in size, and after a year of having him, he is just a little over 2 1/4 inches. That should give you a fair idea about how slowly they grow. :%)
