well, next week i am off to my grand parents where i will be raiding the nesting grounds for the johney darters, i hopefully am not too late to grab up some hatchlings, although i may be but i will be bringing back some adults, i am gunna try for 10, but im not sure i can pull that off (they r realy very quick)so im gunna rig up a few traps, catchem by hand, and dive with them

Darters are awesome fish. Good luck with them.

Are you going to try and breed them?

I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash.

yea, im gunna try, i had 2 before, but i had no idea they were so protective of teritory, so 1 slowly withered away and died, i fed live blood worms hoping they wopuld move his way to his dark side of the tank, i couldent move him at the time (only had 2 tanks at the time, 29, 10) so im gunna get as many as i can, including fry, i have a very good fry tank that is litteraly jumping with live food so im gunna try and raise some, if the waters havent gotten so high they washed out the nurserys, i will try and see if i can get pics, and scan them to a computer

no prob i wont be sending wilds though, i want to keep my strains as pure as possible, i will also have a tank expecialy for the ones to be released, only the healthiest, no inbreeding, and if 1 in the tank gets sick, the whole trip home wont go till the next year if its late, i wont be responible for the deaths of wilds, but if i have any realy young ones at the time, i might drop em off at the nurcery, where the water temp gets way over 90 degrese the nerceries r in tid pools, there isnt any substrait, and it all just an indented smoothed out black slate..bowl to say the water gets like 7in deep in the deepest spot, this is the only place (that i know of) where johneys live in everypart possible (sounds confusing, but i know what i mean) they live on the soft sands, the rough sands, the hot tidal pools (there r baby sitters in the pools and they r always male)in the rocks, in the swift water, in the quiet waters, it realy is ammazing to swim with a shoal of over 100 darters it just cant be explained, and the biggest i recorded was 3in, i am taking a record book with me, i am going to record specimins, colors, sizes, the number of late babys and just extra notes, i have to be down in the water with my nanny (grandmother)but i will se if i can go to the tide pools and collect extras, i am takig a 10 gallon specimin tank with me, a divider, and extra little kritter keepers, nets, buckets, but i only have a couple of days to do so, i have to help pait, and such so i can get the money to go fishy shopping

I do not know exactly what you're saying, however, no darter of any species is to be kept in 90 degree water, IMO. Also, a suitable substrate is necessary (specifically sand), for they are fashionable sand divers. You shouldn't run into many problems; johnnies are amongst the easiest of the genus to adapt to aquarium life.

ok, what i said are the measurements i took personaly, and i have kept them before, and had the last one live for quite a while, till my filter crapped out:#( they need high oxigenated waters, and there wasnt enough in the 29 i tried to save him, but he drifted behind a piece of drift wood, and i never saw him again even after i tore the tank apart looking for himso, they r gunna get the recomended tank size, 20 gallons long

well, i have the quarintine tank all set up and cyclingi figured i can fit maybe 3-4 adults in the 10 gallon, 1-2 adults in the 29, and maybe add another to the 20 high, after i get all the new tanks in, i will be finding them tank mates, and pairing them up in the 20 longs but,i have to fetch sand for those too this will be fun
