I posted something similar not long ago [link=here]http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/forums/Bottom%20Feeder%20Frenzy/63177.html" style="COLOR: #99FF33[/link].

Mine has been in the tank for a week now and is just starting to seem more comfortable, not darting & hiding. I still haven't seen it eat yet though.

Have you got an area "cave" he can call his own.

Frozen blood worms will bring him out when hungry.

Also what else is in the tank. That is rather a large CL to relocate they stress very easy.

i have a cave..but he dont seem to enter there..the other clowns will enter that cave but not him...then i took the cave out so that the small ones could 'calm' the big one down..moreover...i bought 3 angelfishes so that the angels can serve as a dither fish...

Are you saying there are no caves at all? By the sounds of it there should be atb least two and possibly three areas for the loaches.

As Keithg said..you should add more caves or some rocks so that they can hide.
When i bought a baby feather_fin catfish..he was really shy..he tried to hide in some caves but those where allready occupied..so i putt some stones made it like a cave and now he is really happy

I know human beings and fish can co-exist peacefully.

Agree with the several caves/hiding places - ironically the more hiding places they have the more secure, and therefore the more friendly, they seem to be.

All my loaches love cucumber and get really excited by it so you could try putting a wedge in a plastic clip and pushing it into the gravel. (have read that they also like courgettes (zuchini) but mine don't go for it.

Don't know much about angels but other community fish can definitely help draw them out.

When mine go into caves they often flick gravel out (very funny) so probably fine. The other thing to look out for which can cause them to throw gravel around is ich/ick/white spot (all the same) which causes them irritation and makes them flash their bodies against the gravel.

Good luck!

Just give them some more time.

If you provide a safe and healthy environment, with lots of hidey places, nice food and clean water, even the most skittish fish will settle down.

My favourite way to introduce new fish is to release them into the aqaurium and them throw in a bunch of bloodworms....they quickly forget the stress of moving

My very first clown loach was far smaller than the other three. He tended to be shy and stay in hiding, even when favorite foods were present (like freeze-dried shrimp).

It wasn't until I added a second and THIRD mate about his size that he starteed to join the school and seem comfortable. I don't know why he didn't hang out with the big ones, nor why he didn't team up with the 2nd his size. But when I had 4 big ones (only 4"--not that big :-) and 3 little ones (about 2" he joined the others.

Now all 7 school together, especially early morning when they're looking for breakfast.

Of course now I need a bigger tank!

Anyway, perhaps your 5" clown loach needs a friend of similar size?

that guy swims together with 10 of my 1.5-1.75 inch clown loaches...they frequently swim the figure of 8 'formation' at the back of the tank..when the small guys dig the gravel for food,he'll just continue swimming like that and goes to the gravel and digs a little bit and continues swimming..
