i was thinking of stocking my soon to be freed up 55g with some cichlids. The stocking would be something like
2-3 firemouths
1 convict
Would this fit? Would they all be compatible?

There's a possiblity of agressions if the firemouths end up breeding.

A 55g is a nice size with many options available to you. Take a look here for some suggestions.

ON that site, many of the tanks have a LOT more fish than that cookie cutter steup advises. Is that site ultra conservative? or is it trying to protect new peoples from crashing and burning?

Its not that conservative, its just that loads of people underestimate the aggression factor especially when breeding kicks off.

Is it me or is a cookie cutter a kind of shark that drills holes in whales and rubber parts on submarines? Odd terminology.

Actually if youve never seen one , take a looky ,off topic I know, its well worth it, and while youre at it check out the goblin shark. That is one UGLY fish.

your right that is one ugly fish. That thing about its bioluminescent hunting method is cool though...
Anyway, reading past threads on the sit people have 15 or 16 of the medium sized mbuna which i want to keep.
Why does everything suggest to get a max of 3 species in a 55?
