I was planning on putting a pair of convicts in my 55 gallon but now im second guessing that idea. I was looking for some suggestions on stock? I interested in africans or maybe a pair of some other new world cichlid.

A 55 is perfect for a group of Mbuna. Zebras are pretty easy to find and have a variety of colors. You could get 6 ^_^

Well I can get two 4" JD for free, or a 6" RBP for free, or some africans like Sunshine Peacocks and Ps. saulosi for $5 each, at about 1-1.5".

i wouldn't suggest a RBP for a 55. They prefer groups and the only thing you can really put with them is other RBP.

if you did the JDs you would have to make sure you got a male and a female.

My favorite from your list would be the Sunshine Peacocks ^_^ They are really pretty fish and you could put a few in there and they will thrive ^_^

I vote JDs awsome fish awsome personalitys just make sure you get a pair otherwise you only have a JD.

But there are some other good fish out there
Firemouths
Kissing Gourmis
RTBS
Texas Chilids

When making your stocking list remember that not all aggressive fish with huge personalitys are cichlids.

Just watch that your Sunshine Peacocks and Red Emperess don't cross breed. If given the chance it could be a high possibility.

Yeah I'm watching out for them, i dont want to cull any normal fry just b/c they are cross bred, so I'm going to try to stop it from happening.
