I will be setting up a 75 (maybe 90 or 120 if lucky) and want to the main focus to be on South and/or Central American cichlids. I would like to have Cories, Lemon tetras, and Neon/Cardinal tetras as well, so fish that won't eat them would be appreciated, I can handle them snacking on a Neon every once in a while but don't want them to eat an entire school. These are some cichlids I am interested in, but don't know if they would be compatible with the other fish.

Oscar
Jack Dempsey
Firemouth
Rams
Severums
Angelfish
Green Terror
Blue Acara
Keyholes
Convicts

I would definitely not keep all, or even most of these fish in the same aquarium. Some of them prefer different water conditions, so I'm trying to come up with a stocking list that would limit aggression, and wouldn't wipe out the tetra schools. So feel free to come up with a stocking list and post it, I'm definitely open to suggestions.

Another question, is a 75 gallon tank big enough for a Common Pleco? I have heard it is, but definitely don't want to stunt it. I fell in love with this fish when I first saw it in my dentist's tank, which I now know was way to small(35-40 gallon).

Edit: Forgot to add, assume the stocking is for a 75 gallon unless I say different. Although, you could give me stocking lists for both.

Rams and keyhole cichlids would work, also, and Apistogramma species you can find would work in such a tank. I'm not sure about the blue acara, but I believe all the other fish you've listed will eat neons - Angelfish may not eat cardinal tetras, which are just a bit bigger than neons.

I agree with the above totally. Rams, keyholes and the apistogrammas would be the only cichlids you could safely keep with the tetras.
Decent sized schools of the tetras and cories you mentioned
with some of the smaller cichlids would lokk good though.

Good luck

Hello Interesting post, will be curious to see how this turns out and what you decide for your tank.

For tanks A and B, choose 3 of the 4 species..

Tank A
Rams -Severums -Angelfish - Apistos
Cories and tetras would work. The odd neon may become angel food.
Could be combined in a large tank with lots of territories. Don't overstock and you'd have a very interesting and enjoyable tank here. Can plant although the severum will occasionally dig.

Tank B
Keyholes, Angels, Discus, Bolivian Rams, Angel Rams.
Corys and some tetras would also work here.

Tank C - Oscars and Severums
Oscars are too aggresive for the above fish, but the fish lsted below would pester or kill them.

It'a hard to say with a firemouth, i had one that tormented an oscar but the following fish would possibly kill.

Tank D - Blue Acaras and Green Terrors
Quite frequently mixed, nearly identical size & behaviour.

Convicts and jack Dempseys ? not sure here, but are very aggressive, usually species only tanks, may possibly be mixed in a large tank but inquire further with people that have owned them. Both can kill oscars and severums. There's a chance the firemouth would be ok in a Dempsey tank since they are fast - Id ask someone that actually did it.

Good luck

Be sure not to intermix SA, CA, African, or the Nigerian Krib types with each other.

Thanks for the replies. I'm leaning towards the tank of Rams, Angels, and Severums. I've tried GBR before and they seemed quite fragile, so I'll try to get Bolivians if I do that. I was thinking a pair or two of Rams, one Severum, and am not sure on the Angels, would appreciate some help on them. I'm not sure if the tank is big enough to get 6, maybe if I cut out the Severum.

I'm still not sure what I'll get for filtration, but am leaning towards a canister with one or two power filters helping with filtration/circulation.

This may be more of a question for Bottom Feeder Frenzy, but would a Common Pleco be okay in a 75 gallon, or would I need to step up to a 90+? Thanks for all your help so far!

I would say that the pleco would be just about right for a 75 gallon, but it may be better for it to be in a 90 gallon tank. You could try it, and it is pretty armoured, so it can stand up to some light & curious picking from smaller fish. I think it would look pretty nice in a big tank. They grow to be about the size of a small sandshark, or something like that.....

Yeah, I'll probably go for the 90 if I can. The Common Pleco is one of my favorite fish, and the reason I'm getting another tank.

I decided against the Common Pleco, they produce too much waste and might suck on the slime coats of the Angels. I have decided to go with a school(6+) of Otocinclus and one of my BN instead. Thought I'd post this incase it would affect how I stocked the tank.
