i have a blue mbuna, and was wondering what thier average life span is? he is acting a little funny, checked water condition, everything seems fine, do regular water changes. he swims around most of the day with his head up, tail down and head near the surface. thanx in advance

If were talking Labeotropheus fuelleborni, its probably 8 -12 years depending on conditions and breeding efforts.A lot of fish ages vary enormously. Call it 10 years ballpark average.

He might have a swimbladder issue or some partial brain damage from protozoan parasites or something. Does his swimming seem compulsive or relentless?

sometimes he just kinda freaks out, but when he is swimming he seems normal

Might just be a dodgy specimen, because of captive breeding a lot of specimens that arent tip-top survive when they might otherwise not in nature. This might be as normal as he can be.

If you see raised veins, bouyancy difficulties, or failure to feed,indented stomach, spinal curvature etc, get back to us.

Is he clamping at all? Sometimes having ph that is slightly off can cause some of the rift cichlids to do this sort of thing.

he is actually about five years old and this just started a couple of weeks ago. as far as his features, he looks as healthhy as ever.
