I'm looking at Bolivian Ram(s)http://www.gcca.net/fom/Microgeophagus_altispinosa.htm as a candidate that I've found on a web search.

Any other colorful ones that only get between 3 and 4 inches(7.5cm to 10cm)?

As a note to those replying, daddySEAL is interested in the eartheater behavior specifically to help mix the gravel and prevent build-up of detritus and waste (discussed in Bottom Feeder Frenzy).

Oh bum, I just posted some of that kind of info back in the other thread, I didnt spot this one. Rams are cute little fish, but they dont turn over gravel.

Quick look at baensch tells me :

geophagus argyrosticus 15cm
geophagus grammepareius 14cm
geophagus pelligrini 15cm
geophagus teaniopareius 15cm
gymnogeophagus rhabdotus 15 cm

Some of the guianacara might be worth a look too, but I dont really have any experience of them.

You could also change continents and look at african malawi cichlid species , stuff like lethrinops if you dont mind running harder water and higher ph, but they will prefer sand over gravel.

It depends very much on your current stocking, if you can mention all the fish species you currently have I can have a reasonable stab at which eartheater might work. Your overfiltered so I assume a near 6 inch fish isnt a stretch, but its a question of whom can go whith whom without there being a bloody big punch up or some outright predation.

Firemouths, perhaps? Are they considered part of that group?

Right, Shinigami
(but also not a too large, a too small(like Dwarfs) variety, to not get eaten, or crowd my already full tank!)

longhairedgit, I saw your other reply with the links, Great site...Thank You.

Yes, Superlion,
I know and have had Firemouths many years ago in a tank over twice the size of my current 55g one.

My tank is just about Maxed out, with varieties of still juvinile cichlids that will grow large eventually. And didn't want to overpopulate the tank badly(if I haven't already...Ha!) with another 6" fish....so I was looking for something between 3 and 4 inches(7.5cm to 10cm), but "not a Dwarf" so it would not get swollowed and be tough and big enough "hold it's own" with the bigger fish. (Namely one Green Terror fish)

One Firemouth is a good choice though and colorful. I still might get one anyway (and see if my fish count might be lessened in munbers because of aggression in current varieties!)....Thanks
