I have a planted 10g tank that I will be redoing soon. I want to plant it heavily and upgrade the lighting to 4wpg. Right now it is home to a male betta, 6 harlequin rasboras, and an otto. They will all be moving to my new 55g tank, so the 10g will be empty.

I have a thread on the Getting Started forum about the tank. I was looking for suggestions for what I should put in there. I got the suggestion of Apistos.

Would a trio (1m/2f) work in a 10g? I've heard that it would be fine and I've also heard that there could be too much aggression.

What do you all think?

Acidrain, I would love to hear your opinion!

1m/1f should be ok in a heavily planted 10g dont see much issue with agression. apisto arnt exactly terrors when it comes to agression.

A pair would be great. I actually have a pair of orange sunset cacatoides breeding in a 6 gallon. They are great with the fry.

As for a trio. They should be fine, but there could be some minor aggression between the females. I have never tried a trio of apistos in that small of tank. But hey, if they don't get along, you can always put the extra female in your 55 community tank. This way you will have a backup female if anything happens to the breeding female in the 10 gal.

Hope this helps.

Thanks! Yes it helps alot. I thought a pair would work, but was advised to check here first...just to make sure. I will see what kind of funds I have after redoing the 10g...and what I can get...then I guess I'll decide how many. More than likely I'll just get a pair...I want to get a boyfriend for my blue ram in the 55g. Between them and my angels...I think thats enough cichlid pairing for one tank.

Thanks again!/:'
