Blue rams are great fish. One of my favorite dwarf cichlids. If you want to get a male and female pair they may even spawn, it isn't uncommon. I would definitely recommend getting a pair as they often bond with each other and are interesting to watch when they interact. There are a few different ways of sexing them. I usually pick out a fish with a very bright red underside(female) and one with out any red at all(male).

Although they are cichlids Rams aren't aggressive and aren't suitable for aggressive tanks. They are actually very peaceful with a slight exception when they spawn.

One thing that is vital to keeping rams is good water quality. They are not extremely fragile or anything but they are more sensitive than other fish so keep up with the water changes. They also like neutral to soft water.

If I haven't answered any of your questions yet ask away.

With rams, just be sure you are willing to do very regular water changes including gravel vacuum. Good luck.

My only tip, don't get them from the LFS.....see if you can pick a pair of tank bred one's from another hobbyist....they are much heartier. Aquabid is a good place to go.

ye ok thanks guys um i do water changes and gravel vacs every 2-3 weeks but the filter is so andvanced that when i do a gravel vac nothing comes off. I dont know where i would look in the UK outside a LFS i could get my LFS to get me just 2 special ones. Um with the aquabid love to browse but would not buy as i have not found many people in the uk selling on there and dont want to buy from andother country as shipping to much. I am probley wrong with the whole aquabid thing. I think i will ask some people at my local fish club if they know a gd breeder. But with the LFS thye mainly only get males as they are better looking or somthing oh well but ye thanks so far guys and comments on blue rams is great

thanks

What filter do you have?

NO filter will replace water changes.

That would be strange if they only got males because of their looks because the two genders are both pretty similar looking:

I agree, they are both beautiful, and then you also have the chance of them spawning.
