Has anyone had any experience with these cichlids, that could share some insight on them. Im planning on getting five, but just want to end up with a pair really.

These are very nice fish. All the different species pretty much have the same charicteristics. They will spawn in shells just like the shell dwellers, with the female protecting the eggs and the fry. The males get about twice as large as the females. The males will be aggressive towards each other, and the females will fight over shells with each other. Once you establish a pair, it is best to keep them separate as a pair. They are very hardy, and forgiving. They will do well in most water parameters. They rarely attack other fish, except during the protection of the eggs and fry. Suggestion for other fish, are surface or midwater dwellers.

The ones that I've had experiences with were quite shy.
They dug around the gravel a bit, but were nice fishes to have overall.

I got them today, i got two males and three females. They are really nice looking. Im housing them in my 30 gallon for now, but they will eventually go to the 55 gallon with some other africans.

With two males, just be sure you have the breeding places spaced at each side of the tank. That way the males will each have their own territories. Though I fear the 30 might still not be enough room. However, the 55 will be fine with some shells at each end of the tank.
