Can also go by the genus Cichlasoma, the old genus. You can find them just about anywhere. They are all over the net. They have larger spots and are more green, than the standard Texas Cichlid. Males reach about 8 inches, and females about 5 inches. They lay their eggs in a cave. Are moderately aggressive in normal behavior, and extremely aggressive when spawning or guarding their clutch. The female will turn almost black in her body, with a pearl white head when spawning or guarding her clutch. Basically, as for personallity, they are like most all CA cichlids when it comes to spawning. They are diggers in the substrate, and will uproot plants and overturn rocks. Be sure to try to find out the local of the particular fish you are looking for, as their beauty changes with the different locations they come from. All are quite beautiful, but some more than others. If you are any where near Chicago, you can probably find them from several different locations, for sale at the ACA next week. There is always a bigger fish... |
