Badgers034 Hobbyist Posts: 59 Kudos: 23 Votes: 4 Registered: 15-Feb-2006 | I have a 29 gallon tank. All i want is one cichlid in it. The three i am most interested in is a jack dempsey, oscar, or a convict. Is this at all ossible. I really want either a jack dempsey or an oscar but i will take a convict. All I want is a smart cichlid w/ personality and is aggressive, so I can feed it feeder fish. |

If you really want to go with feeders I suggest you breed your own. "A noble spirit embiggens the smallest man" Simpsons |

Badgers034 Hobbyist Posts: 59 Kudos: 23 Votes: 4 Registered: 15-Feb-2006 | thats what i would do with the feeder fish. But what kind of fish could i get. Are there any other types of cichlids I could put in there? I kind of want a big one, that is smart, aggressive, and will learn to recognize me. P.S. Betta Chris, would it be ok if i only got one oscar or jack dempsey?? Instead of more than one. Because all I want is one big cool fish, preferably not a pair of fish. |

Really if you want a large cichlid you probably want a bigger tank. "A noble spirit embiggens the smallest man" Simpsons |

How about convicts?? they seem kinda mean and the right size for my tank? Please if you have any other suggestions about a smaller MEAN, smart and interesting fish, please reply. |

The oscar grew so much quicker than the other and then started to run the tank. The final straw for me with the oscar was when it drew blood when I fed her one day. I would not mix them because the oscar takes over the tank very fast. If you want a fish with "killer" personality get the oscar, but would think real hard about tankmates. Barb |

I have a pair of them in my 40 breeder and they have been great pets....i had them almost 2 years and the male is about 10inches and the female is about 6 or 7 very nice fish...but if you do put just one in there you are going to have keep up on your water changes etc. Another interseting cichlid is the Firemouth they get about 6inches there pretty cool you could maybe do a pair of them. |
