I need to know. I'm looking to find out about pike cichlids, and this species really interestes me. I couldn't find any decent information in books, and a didn't get any decent results on Google. So, the basics, tank size, diet, aquascaping, water, etc. Thanks in advance.

The Crenicichla proteus are considered a dwarf pike, since they only reach 5-6". Its one of the more common crenichiclas.

Males have long pointed dorsal and anal fins, females have the dorsal fin less pointed. Females also have a black spot on their dorsal fin, which easily distinguishes male and females.

Female: Note the orange surrounding the black spot on the dorsal.
