I'm looking to buy a pair of severums for a large, heavily planted 74 gal tank. My only concern is that they would dig up alot of my plants. What do you guys think?

Cheers, Ben

I must say it would depend on the fish. I had some customers come into the store saying their severums had dug up the whole tank, plastic plants everywhere. Mine barely touches a plastic plant, and only touches the sand when theres food on it. I've seen alot of tanks with severums in semi planted tanks with hardy plants also.

My concern would be more towards the Severums eating the plants. My Sev i use to own actually munched on Java Fern when it was really hungry, and would tear off all my beautiful Java Moss.

But they do dig, but not excessively. If they breed they will dig alot. Like the person before me said, it will depend on the individual fish. But generally they are not big on digging and love their greens.

Awesome, Thanks for the info!
How about Blue Acaras? I've always had an interest in them.

Cheers, Ben

I have kept them too. They don't dig too much. They do dig alot when they breed though. They will try and rearrage some tank ornaments like plants sometimes. But that is just funny trying to see them move plants by tugging leaves.

They aren't that big on eating greens aswell. Try your luck with either. Both are really great fish with lots of personality. You could try one of each you know.

I support what gomer said, they do dig, but not alot. They do dig more than severums (in my opinion).

I though havent had my severums munch on plants (probably cause I stuff them with pellets), but I had my acara nip at my java fern before.

Yeah my Severum use to actually eat Java Fern sometimes. It was a freak. It was a peaceful giant too.
