Hello,

I have been trying to figure out what the sex of this guy is. It is a bolivian ram and tomorrow I am hoping to get another one to form a pair. I am thinking it is a male because he is aggressive around feeding time, has little fin extentions, and the breeding tube is small. But I am no expert so I tohught if I provided some pics you guys could help me.

Thanks

Seems more like a female to me. Females actually are the ones with the shorter fin exstensions.

Im not so sure, the middle picture seems to show quite an extended topfin, and this isnt a mature specimen, so im thinking probably male. Presumably in the other pics the camera blur and the movement of the fish masked the look of the fins a little. The fish might be a little young to show tail extensions yet. Its a tough call.

Thanks for the help all. Git, the second pic where the top fin looks long, well it isnt that long, its just the pic. I will have had the fish for a year in december. It was only about an inch and a half when I got it. There was another one in there with it, but I lost it a while back, they both were aggressive towards each other. Another reason I am leaning towards it being a male.

Ok, all a little update.

I got a beautiful little female several days ago for my male ram. I knew exactly when I saw her that she was a female because she was the exact opposite of the one I already have. Which I am very confident is male.

She has shorter fins, a tummy that has a very pinkish, redish, orangish tinge too it. And she has a much longer tube than the other. She is just stunning and has a personality to boot.

When I put her in the tank the male did not take to her at all, and is still warming up to her. At first h would chase her all across the tank, not letting her rest, and she would just swim away very scared. But now he doesnt chase her as much and they display to each other alot, her tube has gotten longer, and she faces up to him every now and again instead of swimming away.

It will take a little while longer, but I think I will have a great pair here soon.
