After months of searching for them, I had long ago given up on finding any Bolivian ram cichlids in my area. I didn’t want to have to order them, and the Internet’s shipping fees are outrageous. I had consigned myself to my fate, when I heard some awesome news at work. One of my co-workers had gotten to help the store’s owner pick out some fish to order for the next shipment, and Bolivian rams were on the list! The co-worker said that there was a good chance that we would be getting the rams in, and if so, they would be here by the end of the month. I’m really excited about this, as Bolivian rams are one of my favorite cichlids, though I’ve never actually kept one.

Now, to my question. I know how to care for them and all that, and I don’t have the space for a breeding pair. I just want to know what their favorite food to eat is, so I can give it to mine as a treat. Would bloodworms work all right? If so, how do I care for them (if that is necessary) once I buy them?

And when he gets to Heaven, to Saint Peter he will tell: "One more Marine reporting, Sir! I've served my time in Hell."

favorite food really depends on the fish books. i have 2 in my tank and its a community 75g so as you can imagin there is alot of different choices at feeding time. choices include flake - shrimp - algae - cichlid pellets. the male drops what hes doing and swims through the pellets to get to the shrimp and the female ignores everything for the pellets. both are more then willing to pick off flake as it goes by. i havent tried worms yet i havent find the kind i want.

edit: btw grats on finially getting rams im sure yo wont be disapointed

Mine go crazy for frozen bloodworms, but they're not picky eaters at all. They've eaten every kind of flake food I've given them, and love joining the cories in eating sinking wafers. I haven't seen them eat fresh veggies when I've put them in, though. The frozen bloodworms are definitely the biggest hit with them.

My boy definitely loves his bloodworms but he also likes Tetra Colour Bits (I crush them up a little).

My Rams love Bloodworms, and their second fave treat: Algae Wafers! They also relish sinking crumbles, sinking bottom feeder pellets, and well...everything else! They are big pigs who enjoy pretty much anything offered
You will love your new Ram Sirbooks! Congrats and enjoy!

Mine LOVE african cichlid attack pellets. He doesnt really eat anything else besides frozen cichlid food. When he sees those pellets falling, he zips to them and sucks them up as fast as he can. He absolutely loves them.
