No you have a normal cichlid. Territorial. Most of them are like that. How big is he and how long has he been in the tank? Are there any decorations to break up his view of other fish?

Yup, i have the same problem with my female flowerhorn. anything i try to add becomes fish food.

best bet if you wanted another fish in the tank. i'd say put in a strong divider.

plecos, i'm thinking wont live that long. odds are they would get chased as much as the oscar is able to until it gets them and takes them out, or they are stressed to death.

Fish tanks are an expensive addiction

I think your asking for solutions that dont exist. Cant put large territorial predatory cichlids together without them fighting. Oscars are notorious for not accepting cagemates of any kind. Theres no other advice to give except stop.If you want a community tank, you dont base them around fish like oscars. Just leads to savaged and killed cagemates. If you want fish like plecs and nocturnal catfish in with them its sometimes do-able, but there must be a huge amount of bogwood and caves that only they can squeeze into and the oscars cant, you could take up half the interior space of a 300 gal doing that successfully, and there are still risks. In nature an oscars territory is about 8 cubic feet, and other fish are chased off. Suddenly makes a 300 gallon seem not so big.

Agreed on the community tank. It's just not gonna happen with big aggressive fish.

I've just added a small African with my Red Devil and while there's been some action, there's no damage done yet.

If you do decide to keep the Oscar then I recommend your tankmates are 1) small 2) fast 3) few in number. A large cave system with multiple levels and entrances will give the other fish some timeout space.

But as always, big aggressive fish will be big aggressive fish. Nothing you do will be foolproof.
