Hey guys. I have a 38 gallon cichlid tank, and one of my kenyi has been holding fry for the past 2 weeks. I have read articles and seen videos on stripping females. However, can I just take her out of the tank and place her alone in a 10 gallon tank I set up for the fry? will she spit them out?....thats how they do it in nauture...right? Id rather not put her through the stress of stripping if I dont need to.

Also, once she spits out the fry, will she know they are her children, or will she try to eat them..?? and if so, after how long?

Hi,

Stripping just speeds up the process and allows her to breed again sooner. The separate tank would be ideal. Then you can just leave her until she spits the fry. Make sure there are a few hiding places so that she doesn't get spooked. She won't eat them and you can leave her with them for a couple of weeks to get her condition back before you put her back in with the male/s.

Good luck
