Hi there, can anyone help.

I currently have a female krib in my 30 inch wide 14 inch high tank. I am wanting to breed kribs. Any advice? I have introduced 2 males kribs (1 at a time) and she has killed both. Whats best way to calm her down not not be too aggresive to others? My tank is quite empty at moment I only have 1 kissing gourami which dont both each other and 1 zebra danio which I inherited.

Any help very welcome.

Thanks

First, I'd buy a couple of males and let her choose - look for ones slightly larger as she already has shown she has an attitude.

Then, bag her up and remove her from the tank, rearrange all the hiding spots, and then float all the fish at the same time. Let the males out about 10 minutes before you let her out...

Still, you never know if it will work. Females will often test the males to see if they're strong enough to be a good mate, and they can be merciless if they're too weak.

Thanks.

I have a well planted tank and a plant pot for hiding. Do you think I should add more pots or will they make do with hiding in the plants?

Cheers

I'd probably add at least one more pot, maybe two if you can squeeze them in. Or, you can use driftwood or slate (or other rocks) to make more cave like areas.

Kribs can be real stinkers with each other, but once paired they're usually pretty good.

I agree with the above. Especially rearranging the tank just before adding the new fish. You can never have too many caves for kribs.

On a side note, I found that the smaller the entrance to the cave, the more likely the kribs are to use it to breed.
Set it up so that the kribs can only just squeeze in and they will love it.

You might also want to re-think the kissing gourami. It gets too big for your tank. Maybe take it to your LFS and swap for some more zebra danios.

Good luck.

The above is good advice with the exception, I would get rid of the danios as well. They are quick and will eat the fry when they can. You really don't need any dither fish with breeding kribs. They do just fine by themselves.

Another note, try to make sure the male(s) you get are of at least the same size as the female. The female is wanting the most dominant male she can find to spawn with.
