i looked at dozens of profiles on the internet
and they said that these are very peaceful ciclids but everytime i go to a petstore and find them they are often nipping each others fins and chasing each others. i saw a well established display tank that has them but they are still nipping and chasing each others

i had six breeding pair at one time and they were all peacful until they paired off, then all hell broke loose. my suggetsion is to only get one male or two if your tank is big enough. My two males are doing great in my 55usg planted with my angel fish, rummy noses and geophagus.

Territory, territory! They are peacful, but remember, when they are at the store, they are fighting for space which doesnt exist!! Breeding brings out the WWE in these fish, but otherwise, they are great! Make sure you have room for them, as they tend to hang out onthe bottom of the tank, so limit what you have down there, besides if you use coryadoras.

75 gallon: A. Baenschi trio,Cyanotilapia Afra Cobwe(4), copadichromis trewavase, protomelas sp. tangerine tiger(breeding pair)

They are peaceful.... compared to other cichlids.

What size tank were you planning to have them in?

Before you criticize someone walk a mile in their shoes. That way you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

I had 4 in my 4 foot aquarium. 2 males and 2 females. They paired off and did become territorial, however, once they had sorted this out they were fine. As far as aggression with the other fish in the tank, it was only just to chase away from their territory, no nipping at all.

Unfortunately I lost one of the females. No aggression at all now. I think if you make sure you have enough room so that they can make their own territory you should be fine.

They really are lovely fish. They change colours to blend in with the surrounds and also when their moods change.

Those who say they cant, Never will !!!
