Kribensis...is this normal? | |
Nick Fish Addict 33 Posts: 553 Kudos: 668 Votes: 509 Registered: 09-Aug-2004 | I was just sitting here admiring my new tank with my new Kribs in it, and I noticed one doing this weird half curled up, vibrating dance. I've heard that Kribs and all Cichlids for that matter have quite unusual behavior, but is this normal? Is he just "marking" his territory or something? Thank in advance. |

So you could have some females in the tank, do any of them have black circles in there dorsal fins? -NewBreeder16 _______________________________________________ You can call me Newb too, since I'm not nere new any more. |

shari Enthusiast Posts: 235 Votes: 0 Registered: 25-Mar-2003 | When raising my batches of Kribs, I noticed my males would flare/shake at each other. It could depend on how old yours are, as to what exactly they are doing. As for "spots on the fins", you can't sex them that way, sorry. I've never owned a male with spotted fins, but all my females have them. However, I've seen MANY males with spots, so it just doesn't work. The easiest way I've found to sex them, even at 3 months old, is to look at the very top back of the dorsal fin. Females will have no color on the end, it will be clear and rounded off. Males WILL have color all the way to the tip of the top of the dorsal fin, even at a young age and before the fin lengthens and is obviously pointed. If you have 5 males in a 50g, be ready for some aggression. Although I've never had any problem with a single male in a tank, having multiple males could be a problem??? That's just a warning, as I've never kept adult males together, so I could be wrong on that one Anyway, I hope some of my rambling helps |
