I want to revamp my 36 gallon corner bowfront tank. How many kribs can I put in there? 4? I would like to breed them, and as some dither fish, what else would you put in there? Can i keep my rubberlip pleco inthere as well?

72 gallon bowfront:Tanganyikan Lake set up
75 gallon: A. Baenschi trio,Cyanotilapia Afra Cobwe(4), copadichromis trewavase, protomelas sp. tangerine tiger(breeding pair)

Yeah I would go with 4-5 and go with some zebra danios for the dithers. Once they pair off are you planning on taking out the others?

Haha Ok well if it were me I would go with 5 just to get a pair, then take out the others and I would go with this stock: 2 Kribs, 10-12 Zebra Danios, and 4 Hatchet fish. You dont want to stack the lower level of the tank much because the kribs may kill any bottom dwellers in attempt to protect their fry.

Because your tank is a corner tank it probely is pretty tall with limited surface area. Congos like to be in a school and have lots of swimming room. But I myself would go with them, I would go with 5 Congos and a pair of kribs.

The tank isnt all that tall really...i'll get exact measurements..and it has a decent surface area...it is a bowfront so that does add a considerable amount of surface area..

Well I would still go with 5-6 Congos because they do get farily big and like lots of swimming area. Also maybe some Otto's for algea control or a BN.

Congos are bio-type correct, so they are a good choice. But, thought I'd mention my recent experience with congos / apistos. Do kribs do that same slow motion feeding of other cichlids (eg look at the food as it's floating past, think about it & then decide to go for it, only after having paused some more)? I started off with congos as dither fish for some apistos. (Wrong bio-type I know, but I originally was going to get a dwarf cichlid from West Africa.) LFS warned me that my apisto's would not be able to compete for food with congos, who are really fast swimmers. This proved correct & though I loved the congos, I had to swap them for pencil fish (right bio-type).

If kribs are fast swimmers / hunters, then congos would be good, as they are really nice looking fish. I only mention this as a possible complication - but try it and it could be good for you.

Good luck.

Cheers
