I got 4 Angelfish from my LFS this Sunday into my newly cycled 75G. Being so inexperienced, I never noticed any pairing up of them. This morning, I saw a pair were spawning on the filter intake tube. Don't think there is much I can do with this batch of eggs.. as I'm totally un-prepared. In fact, I never planned to breed them. Any advise to prepare for their next spawning , or link to good resources to get information about Angelfish breeding will be much appreciated. Thanks. -RM |

If all you have in the tank is the 4 angels, they may actually care for them successfully with no problems. A pair of angels is more than capable of fighting other angels off. Its other fish like catfish and loaches and plecos that usually get the eggs under the cover of darkness. If you want to keep the eggs and hatch them yourself, you will need a couple supplies: Small container to hatch the eggs in. Antifungal to prevent egg fungus - I use Pimafix, many use Methylene Blue. Air stone near, under, beside the eggs somewhere. Eggs take approximately 4-7 days to hatch. Wigglers feed off their egg sacs for 48-72 hours after hatching before becoming free swimming. Once free swimming, fry can be moved to a small 5 or 10g grow out tank. I keep a sponge filter running in my big tank at all times for this situation. Once free swimming, fry should be fed on live baby brine shrimp - easily hatched, and then over time crushed flake foods and stuff. Looks like another female is ready to spawn and the same male (I believe I have only one male) is cleaning the filter intake tube with her. I've put in a 10 x 3 inches slate but they don't seem to be interested ![]() P.S. The last batch of eggs got eaten after 48 hours. |

Just give them time to get used to the slate. What are the other tank mates?. Do you have a spare 20/29 gal. tank?. http://www.flickr.com/photos/corydoras/ Member of the Malta Aquarist Society - 1970. http://www.maltaaquarist.com |

The breeding pair don't seem to be bothered by the CL. They were more hostile to the other Angelfish when breeding. I have no other spare tank. If they keep spawning regularly, I might get a 20G tank for the breeding pair. |

It is very rare for a male to mate with multiple females. Usually they find one they like and stick together through thick and thin right to the end. 20g wouldnt be big enough for a pair, youd need a minimum of a 25g tall tank (20x12x24). Clown loaches will definitely devour eggs and fry with zeal. Come Play Yahtzee With Me! http://games.atari.com Http://www.myleague.com/yahtgames |

Despite all the misleading signs I saw yesterday, the original female is spawning with the male (on the filter intake) again. They spawn on every Thursday!? The second female seems to be very frustrated with a full belly of eggs.. |
